(food column on matcha) A Japanese hero, Ichiro surpasses Rose s hits in front of fans About the Nichi Bei Foundation and Nichi Bei Weekly Rising out of the ashes of the historic Nichi Bei Shimbun and Nichi Bei Times legacy, which dates back to 1899, the pioneering and innovative Nichi Bei Foundation was established in 2009 to create the first nonprofit ethnic community newspaper of its kind in the country the Nichi Bei Weekly. The Nichi Bei Foundation (NBF) is an educational and charitable nonprofit organization dedicated to keeping the Japanese American community connected, informed and empowered primarily through a community newspaper (Nichi Bei Weekly) and Website (www.nichibei.org), as well as educational programming. The Nichi Bei Foundation, an educational and charitable nonprofit organization, was also created as a means to support community organizations, shed light on community issues and document the community's history. In addition to publishing the last community newspaper in the Bay Area, the Nichi Bei Foundation also presents educational programming such as the Films of Remembrance, a day-long series of films on the Japanese American concentration camp experience, as well as the Nikkei Angel Island Pilgrimage. The Nichi Bei Foundation also presents the Northern California Soy and Tofu Festival to educate the public about the benefits of soy and tofu, and the festival serves as a vehicle for community-building and leadership development. Amongst the most widely distributed editions are the Obon and Summer Festivals Guide and the Japanese Culture and Cherry Blossom Festivals Guide, which both highlight community events throughout the country.
